Guidance and Psychological Counseling is a bachelor’s program within the Educational Sciences Department of Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Faculty of Education. Guidance and Psychological Counseling undergraduate program aims to train psychological counselors with necessary skills and capacity in line with the needs and requirements of both our country and our era. In addition to this, we aim to help individuals better adapt to their environment in a rapidly developing world and reveal their own talents and abilities; enhance individual, social and emotional development; participate in educational programs and activities in order to improve themselves and to use their potential at the highest level.
In the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, 7 faculty members including 2 professors, 4 associate professors, and 1 assistant professor are employed full time. The undergraduate program lasts for 8 semesters, for a total of 4 years. The undergraduate curriculum consists of many theoretical and practical courses in Field Knowledge, Professional Teaching Knowledge, and General Culture. Our program has a curriculum compatible with the Bologna Process signed between Turkey and the European Union. Medium of instruction in the program is Turkish. The undergraduate program has a very rich infrastructure in terms of practice opportunities. The Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling currently has 6 individual counseling rooms and 2 group counseling rooms equipped with materials such as footed video camera, television, desk and chair, counseling chair and whiteboard. Graduates of the undergraduate program of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, can be employed as psychological counselors at state institutions such as public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, Guidance and Research Centers, Special Education Institutions, Psychological Counseling and Guidance Units of universities affiliated to the Higher Education Institution, various units in the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Services and the Psychological Counseling and Rehabilitation Centers in the military units affiliated with the Ministry of National Defense, Youth Centers affiliated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as well as many non-governmental organizations operating in themes such as education, society and health, or special education and psychological counseling centers. The program started to recruit undergraduate students for the first time in the 2010-2011 Academic Year and is still accepting students. In addition to the Undergraduate Program of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, there are also Masters and Doctorate Programs of Guidance and Psychological Counseling under the Graduate School of Educational Sciences. Guidance and Psychological Counseling Graduate Programs enable students to specialize in a particular subject area both in practice and theoretical terms and create opportunities for students to develop their knowledge and skills for conducting scientific research.
